Beyond the Porch Swing

Five of us are, as I type, driving home from the Passion Conference in Atlanta, GA.  It’s a conference designed for 18-25 year olds.  Though I’ve seen those numbers fly by, repeat and fly by again, I get the privilege to join as a leader.  God’s word is amazing as it has no age limit!  In the next few days I plan to share with you the thoughts consuming my mind from some of the sessions. Please feel free to add your own thoughts to the comment section below!

I’ve always been intrigued by the 1920’s.  The movies always picture people being a bit wild.  Radical changes occurred in the decade such as the women’s suffrage movement, flapper dresses and short hair! The first radio station hit the airways and automobiles hit the streets.  Money was more abundant and people enjoyed spending it!

Then the 30’s.

By the end of the 20’s, the Great Depression had peeked in the door.  The trauma experienced in the 1930’s resulted from ignorance and frivolousness of 20’s.  Financial hardship hit hard. Bigger, better and the desire for ease and more created the dust bowl. The dust bowl caused incredible devastation which lasted almost a decade. I’m sure there were many people who wished the would’ve given more thought to their decisions in the 20’s.

Matthew 7:24-27 tells the story of two houses, one built on rock and one built on sand.  Storms come, life happens and the one built on sand crumbles. The one on the rock remained.  The location might not have been so pretty, hauling building materials might have been more tedious, but the house lasted.

20’s come before 30’s.  What does that look like in your life? On what are you building your house?
